Shadow Lurking

So wait, how was she out during the day in previous episodes? Or was that the point?

Oh, so that's where you were!

I was completely unprepared to encounter the end of Bakemonogatari, in fact I apparently missed episode 14 as well, prompting me to go back and grab that before finishing 15. I must say, for being such a weird series, I actually enjoyed it more than some of the other stuff I have watched recently. The “Tsubasa Cat” arc was a bit long, but worth it.

Anyway, moving on to the meat and potatoes of this post, Pantsu Witches!

loli pantsu furries with guns, the only type of furries I will ever endorse

I'm under the impression if this actually existed, WWII would have been awesome.

Strike Witches 2 debuted roughly six months after the end of the first series. The opening depicts another Witches squad laying witness to a new Neuroi threat overtaking the old one. Miyafuji, the series heroine graduated middle school and is talking about going to high school to eventually take over the healing clinic where she lives when she receives another letter from her late father, the inventor of the Striker Units. She takes it to the military base to have Sakamoto, her mentor and fellow 501st member to look at, and catches wind of the invasion and involvement of another 501st member and friend, Lynette Bishop, now a Master Sergeant with the Britannia Air Force. Sakamoto denies Miyafuji a chance to help and departs with a new Striker frame, but you can’t stop the kid from going anyway, she jacks another Striker unit with the help of base crew sympathizers and joins Sakamoto in the air.

Strike Witches combines three things, lolis and magic, with WWII-style mechanics and weaponry. Why they wear skimpy panties and have anthropomorphic features when using said magic is pretty much never explained I believe, so it ends up being fanservice. The show itself is pretty awesome to watch, and if you have ever seen the similarly titled Sky Girls that show was essentially this concept minus the furries, and still awesome. If you’ve never seen Witches, start with the first. If you’ve seen Witches, the first episode thrusts you right into the action and will not disappoint.

Putting the DOM in YakuinDOMo

I'm nearly afraid to see what future episodes will be like

Seitokai Yakuindomo is this season’s strangest disjointed thing since the last similarly titled Seitokai. This series revolves around three school council girls and one guy they pretty much pressed in as the new member and Vice President. Oh, it’s also worth noting that the setting is an All Girls School that recently went Co-Ed. The president and secretary spare no expense in telling lewd and often sexual references to many situations putting this series almost like B Gata H Kei except without a plot or direction.

But hey, slim pickings this summer, we’ll see how it plays out.

Mayoi Neko Overrun ended it’s 13th and final episode with pretty much a complete recap with voice overs, which was a bit disappoint. Other than make vague references to possibly another series down the road, it pretty much seems the random wacky adventure ended with the last episode, so I didn’t bother running a screen cap for 13. I will say it was a good series, nothing super to drive home over, especially since Nyan Koi! had more substance to it, but it was amusing to watch.

The last series for this season is out on RAW but hasn’t been subbed yet, hopefully someone has it out tonight or tomorrow.

I also took a chance to drop into Connecticon today to hang out for a few minutes with a few friends, the talented duo who run AngryRabbit and Kitsune Kiki, Dave and Sam in artists alley, and an old IRC comrade, Dave Lister of Paradox Lost whom I bought one of his pieces from a game his company he is involved with is developing for the DS, which hangs nicely in my cubicle at work now. I was also walking around with another friend when we decided to go see Super Art Fight, which to me sounded much like Katsucon’s Iron Artist show from years lore. It was a similar concept, but cleverly pitched, as they gave the artists a topic to start, and changed topics every five minutes from a random user-submitted pool of ideas in a 25 minute match. Some excellent stuff was thrown out there (see Twitter hash tag #superartfight for examples) and others wasn’t that hot, but it was a good time. There was a lot of people this year, probably more than previous years, certainly interesting to see how large Connecticon has gotten since it first started out at UHart 7 years ago. Sadly I still remember the first, including the Bloody Roar tourney in one of the rooms, as well as getting my Aegis Gundam model. Good times.

Speaking of cons, the con circuit for myself next year will be both staffing cons, Katsucon in February at the Gaylord in Washington DC again, and also staffing at Zenkaikon in King of Prussia, PA in March. I may also make a bid for PAX East next year, as well as drop in for Connecticon since it’s in my neighborhood. No Otakon in case you were wondering, one of the reasons I stopped going in 2004 and again after 2006 was that the con is simply too big and too expensive to do anymore. I don’t cosplay, I don’t attend panels really, I don’t attend anime showings, workshops, or much else. I go for artists, dealers, and to hang out with friends. Katsucon has been my home con since 2003 not only because of staffing but because most of my friends, both personal and webcomic/professional go each year, so it’s been a good meeting place. Since the old IRC days this has been less so, but it’s still fun to go each year.

Matrix Beats

Sigh.

Let us began.

you remembered the song we spammed in barrens chat?

excuse me miss, would you happen to know the key of the twilight?

Angel Beats‘s ending was disappoint. I realize by this point that they pretty much gave us a .hack//SIGN ending and made the whole damn thing sound like one big computer game, but to draw out an entire episode on a “graduation” with only the remaining members of the SSS only to pretty much give us this forced-shipping between Otanashi and Tachibana was just… what? Don’t get me wrong, the final episode was fine, but the graduation could have included everyone, given their relative little screentime throughout the series, or more specifically, ever since the plot shifted to Tenshi.

Overall though, I enjoyed Angel Beats, and it was fun to watch. Given how much more they’d have to come up with to go a full 26 episodes, it probably made more sense to keep it at 13 and let the viewer figure the rest out. Was it heaven, or was it a game? Was there really a God? It was a fairly open-ended ending, and while I doubt they will make any more, judging from the final 30 seconds pictured above, I’m betting it was a very elaborate game. Second Life perhaps.

...before breakfast. BEFORE FUCKING BREAKFAST.

He hacked God's Gibson...

Demon King by far was more disappoint than Angel Beats. Not only did they just invent the whole fucking story pretty much towards the end, but they gave us this half-assed ending that resolved nothing and pretty much was LOL HAREM ENDING but with LOL MAGICKS. I felt this series had the potential to be awesome, sort of like a reverse-Harry Potter in the sense that the kid turned out to be evil and did evil shit instead of being goody-two-shoes. Of course his intentions we’re good, but perhaps that was the flaw all along. They barely explained his past or why he became the Demon Lord, only that this “God System” controlled people. Wow, tell me something conspiracy theorists don’t know.

they should totally get the osbournes on this show

what, no mosh pit?

K-ON!! 12 goes out to the experience that is an outdoor concert series. Nothing too grabby comes out of this episode, Mio seems to enjoy the bands and the fact there is a lefty guitar, or maybe just lefties, Ned Flanders would be proud. Yui of course wants food and Azu gets sunburned again. Good times. They talk of wanting to play in the next festival, perhaps with this series going to 26 (or so MAL says) they just may.

I swear her tit size keep changing every episode

obvious fanservice is obvious

Neko Overrun 12 continues to spin in whatever direction they want with a almost West Side Story-type faceoff over what style of shorts the girls should wear in the sports competition, which can be summed up as Nozomi’s catchprase.. “Nyan” along with the revelation that she isn’t as stray as she thought she was. Still one more episode left, I think. I don’t expect anything grand, unless they spoof the ending of some other anime.

it runs in the family

one scene says it all

Working! 12, this. Just this. That is all.

So between this past weekend and this weekend coming up, most of Spring 10 will be over. Starting sometime in July will be Summer 10, and the pickings are pretty slim for me. As mentioned in a previous post, I am looking at Strike Witches 2, Ookamisan to Shichinin no Nakamatachi (aka OokaShiNaka), Asobi ni Iku Yo, and Seitokai Yakuindomo. Nothing seems to be out for anything on AS at the moment, picking up what may be a couple previews for them off TT, but probably just gonna fly in blind as usual and hit or miss. As long as I have Pantsu Witches 2 though, it’ll do for the summer. Considering how the last couple seasons have been, holding out for something worth watching instead of skipping forward through episodes.

Light Death Metal

June 16, 2010 in Currently Watching

So as we near the end of the spring season and run closer to the summer pantsu witches season, I’ve found that my choices to watch keep shrinking with each season. Either I am picky, or not a whole lot is coming out these days. I’ve been filling that with manga, having cleared all of Genshiken, and wondered why the hell they didn’t stick to the manga in the end of the anime. Crazy yaoi girl’s relationship with shy-weeaboo was cute in the manga. Wait, what the fuck am I saying? Ah crap.

Moving on.

is it me, or are her tits getting larger in each episode?

...what I meant to say, was your princess is in another castle.

Demon Lord 11 concludes part of the epic-battle-for-some-reason by further confusing why it took place to begin with. Look, all we know is, there are “Gods” and they have some system. What system? What Gods? Who the fuck is blond hair boy? Oh wait, Kenna with blond hair? Time travelers? Oh son of a bitch. Look, the story and characters were perfectly fine up until you started fucking with everything and the only way out of it was to jump into a epic battle with no real warning and invent some shit to make it all sound plausible. Either show me what happened, or lets wrap this up Kampfer-style and call it a day. Sheesh. I rather liked Kenna and Junko too.

I suppose I can't say much with my MAL record

did someone say weeaboo?

Neko Overrun 10 pulled a double-GlaDOS on you with a girl you thought might be a “stray cat” and cake that was in fact not a lie, but no one saw it get eaten. Otherwise there was some extra dialogue, a lot of wordswordswords from Fumino and the loli, some quips from Nozomi, and a terrible joke at the end.

she looks like she will rip your soul out and teach it english

don't you fuck with light music, son, sawa doesn't take your shit

K-ON! 10 gives us a taste of how Sawa and her friends being the former Light Music Club, rocked your fucking socks off. It’s hilarious how every time I listen to a song by Tenacious D, I always end up thinking about K-ON!! and how it’s like some sort of moe version of Jack Black sipping tea and then rocking your fucking socks off while being completely clueless about your surroundings. It’s like glorious magic.

you can call me, Hikaru

oh goddamit, why do I have this fetish again?

Angel Beats 11 throws another twist in the plot, monsters that consume players and turn them into NPC’s. By now you are wondering if this really is the after-life, or The Sims: Anime School-Comedy Edition where the ending is going to be LOL GUYZ I LOADED TEH LUNIX ON THE SERVER and the whole world turns into a game of Tux. Actually, it’d end up like an anime version of Reboot except it needs more Matrix and AndrAIa.

actually mine was being stuck in -the bush- until 7am in the morning. not for the weak-hearted.

that's totally how my first sexual encounter was like

Working 11 You get the impression by now that they’re slowly trying to tell you that Inami likes Takanashi and that it’s only a matter of time before they get autoshipped and we either end the series or move on to the next thing. It is humorous to note that I used to know a girl that claimed to be afraid of guys, but I’m fairly certain that was a cover to elicit sympathy. Girls want it just as much as guys do, if they deny it, they’re just trying to not portray themselves as sluts. Or they’re lesbian. That’s cool too, but some of those girls actually do punch guys. Inami is too cute to be a dyke.

Just a few more weeks until PANTSU WITCHES. You can’t wait, you flying furry loli bastard!

Oh She Was Paralyzed Though

June 7, 2010 in Currently Watching

Couple of things to note before launching into yet another rendition of THIS WEEK IN YOUR GODDAMN WEEABOO, one is if you ever pay attention to that MAL thing on my sidebar, it now includes manga. Several people pointed to a site I had previously been unaware of and having many titles to choose from, I’m back to reading things I don’t have to buy, although I am seriously considering the e-reader option to shovel manga on to read away from the computer. Baka to Test manga also needs to be updated as I am finding it almost as good as the series. I also was reading through the Code Geass manga, which is also good, even if a bit different. Hoping by paying attention to this site I can catch some of the series that have been out recently, such as Saki and a few others.

Anyway, moving on:

It's always a matter of how big it is...

WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT HIS MANA LEVEL?

Demon Lord 10 was kind of confusing, at the end of 09, you saw some people, about to fight, right? At the beginning of 10, monsters were fucking everywhere and blond boy that you just fucking met something like two episodes ago and they didn’t even introduce him that well (remember I called him Mid-Boss) tries to take a swing and lands a hit before they run away. Sai gets his dragon on and AW SHIT SON, IT’S GONNA GET REAL starts happening between the Demon Lord, Junko and her sister, Hero boy, and Slutty McSlutinPurple and Keena. Oh and blond boy starts squaring off with a PUMPED THE FUCK UP school principal in some rip-off of whatshisname from Bleach. Yeah, I have no fucking clue what is going on at this point, something about Gods and Kenna being something like some sort of black-box Whispered-type and some other crazy shit. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the random fanservice and decent characters, this series would be about as useful as Kampfer was.

I still graduated though. Barely.

reminds me of my finals in high school

K-ON!! 09, I swear this season seems to be highlighting how incredible airheaded Yui is, not that season one didn’t do that either, but they kinda made her out to be the girl who learned how to play guitar despite managing how to tie her shoes and walk in a straight line. This week they show you how she can manage to take the final exams, and still practice for a talent show her neighbor invited her to participate in. Only instead of the usual squad of girls helping out our bumbling Yui, it’s Azunyan to the rescue, doing what she does best, straightening Yui out. Ah, the simple things in anime.

It's still on my list of things to have sex on top of

HELL YEAH AIR HOCKEY!

Mayoi Neko Overrun 09 finally dispenses with the crazy random episodes and puts us back into yet another trip where they go to a beach, do beach stuff, show off their swimsuits with loli flat-chest being the loudest and Otome’s coming undone, do more beach stuff, and then end up in another STRANDED WITH A GIRL scene between the two series mains, Takumi and Fumino. Of course before the other half of her tsundere personality can admit she likes the poor bastard, rich girl and the crew find them and spoil the party.

I swear lolcats will end up making it into an anime one of these days

TK: Angel Beats' idea of LOL FUNNY ENGRISH CHARACTER

Finally, Angel Beats 10 kicks off Otanashi’s mission of sending people to Heaven Mk. II starting with the annoying Yui who took over GirlDeMo after it’s previous lead sent herself to Heaven Mk. II earlier in the series. With the cute yet clumsy Tenshi, he manages to help Yui, who in her previous life was completely paralyzed from a car accident, do all of the things she had seen on TV while laying in bed, sports, wrestling, and music. Finally at the end, her last wish was to marry, and I have no idea how it ended, it seemed kinda forced, but I’m not certain where this series is going now that Tenshi is really not the enemy and Yuri has no idea what to do now. Frankly, are they ending this at 12/13 or is this going to 26 or second season?

Also, started watching a little bit of Hidamari Sketch, as I started downloading stuff from past seasons I overlooked. It seems a bit random, like Lucky Star meets Azumanga meets K-ON!! meets, oh, every other disjointed “slice-of-life” series. I kinda hate to use that term, people like to refer Azumanga to being the source of that, along with Seinfield in the US, but I tend to just think of it as “no-plot-no-worries” kind of anime, the stuff you don’t have to pay attention to closely, but is all good the same.

I need some new ringtones and notification sounds. Question is… what?

Jefferson Cake Time

May 30, 2010 in Currently Watching

First off, having skip-skimmed through the 4 or 5 episodes I haven’t watched of B Gata H Kei I’ve found I am still generally uninterested in watching any of it, so I decided to drop it from this season. I like generic comedy sometimes, but Neko Overrun and Working! is doing a sufficient job of holding my attention span, BH is just silly

I should note I am in the process of downloading this week’s episodes, so the rundown below is last week’s.

Right then, on to it:

you probably should not piss off an employee with a sword

Such a sharp love triangle it is, and all Kyoko wants are parfeits.

Working! 06 and 07 covers the wonderful world of 4w1m families and how I’d want to kill myself if I were in that situation, as well as what happens when you fall for a con-artist girl and put her to work in the restaurant. Like I’ve said, this series pretty much highlights dysfunctionality in food service and it reminds me of my other job every day.

i like where this is going-- GIGGITY

for the girl who pleasures herself on the thought of the demon lord, this should just help, right?

Demon King 08 set up some sort of END BOSS in the beginning but didn’t elaborate any further, meanwhile the invisible stripper and Demon King spent most of the episode trading words back and forth while DK’s “Number One” and his new LEGENDARY HERO POWERS went and saved people and got to save his TV idol. Going to predict that he ends up being MID BOSS to DK probably before the aformentioned BIG BAD swoops down only to be blocked by LOLI COUNCIL PRES.

ZA POWAH

FINAL~~~ FUSIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON~~~

Mayoi Neko Overrun 07 in a strange twist, presented an entire episode featuring the characters in a spoof cross of GaoGaiGar and Godannar. There isn’t much to say except that it totally lacked COURAGE, HOT-BLOOD, and GUTS. There was plenty of female fanservice though.

SaiMoe 2010 is coming up in a couple months, as I recall preliminaries will be starting sooner with first round starting in early August. Series included should be Summer 2009 to Spring 2010, so about the only people from last year’s list of mine that will return this year will be the K-ON! Five. There will be plenty from this year though to vote for, though I imagine I will not get the chance to personally vote given last year’s trouble trying to vote in the 2ch threads even with proxies. My main goal this year though is to up my graphical charts and posters, they won’t be as awesome as the Anon who does animesaimoe.org but it’s still worth a shot.
