Fall 2014 Preview

I have been notably absent for most of the summer season. Part of that has been the heat, when you own a house from the early 1900s with plaster walls, it traps heat like no one’s business. But mostly it has been playing Firefall, which is tiding me over until more Borderlands in October. Because, you know, have to divide my nerd hobbies equally.

Anyway, here is a quick-look at the next season.

Very Yes
Hitsugi no Chaika – Many Chaika. So body parts. Wow.
Log Horizon – I elected to skip SAO, so the finer points of comparison are lost on me, but Log Horizon was at least two-fifths responsible for relighting my desire to play MMOs again, only better MMOs and not WoWshit.

Yes
Danna ga Nani wo Itteru ka Wakaranai Ken – I can only imagine from the description that this would just be a show about my wife and I. If she worked in an office.
Sora no Method – Cute girls doing cute alien things.
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru – Club girls doing cute HERO things.
Denki-Gai no Honya-san – I am hoping for some kind of spiritual successor to Working! here, but when you’re in a manga shop focusing on nerds, well, it’s probably going to be more like walking in to Spencers in the mall.
Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de – You know what I miss? Read or Die. Now that was a great show. But hey, lit kids with super powers! What could possibly go wrong?
Terra Formars – The premise seems like the most fantastic sort of science-fiction adventure movie that would be lampooned by Mystery Science Theater 3000 thirty years later. I am interested already.

Maybe
Amagi Brilliant Park – I WANT TO GET OFF MISTER BONES WILD RIDE.
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works – I watched through all of this back in 2006, and haven’t really touched an F/S property since. It’s not bad, but you really have to have an appreciation for the Type-Moon universe to enjoy it.
Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo – Sounds like the sort of world Democrats think they can construct with all of the world’s money. I just see it as another attempt from Sunrise to be relevant.
Grisaia no Kajitsu – Man, I was just thinking to myself, “I haven’t seen a show like Infinite Stratos in awhile. Why haven’t they made another show like Infinite Stratos for me to watch?”
Madan no Ou to Vanadis – If you’re going to do a harem, make em hot, and make em fight.
Trinity Seven: 7-nin no Mahoutsukai – Ah Seven Arcs, keepers of the curious and random. This sounds too similar to Angel Beats in some way, but maybe we’ll be lucky and this won’t spawn an awful fanbase.
World Trigger – Nothing is better than stories about invincible aliens beaten with their own arms by children of survivors.

No
Selector Spread WIXOSS – The first season was a tepid Magic: The Gathering: The Anime. It tries to inflate its sense of purpose with this whole alternate reality trapped-in-the-cards tale a la Myst, but with none of the intrigue or aesthetically-pleasing surroundings. It’s 2DEEP4U in the big city, or seedy New York City before Giuliani and Soda Taxes. Fortunately, some other masochists enjoy this sort of thing.
