[Underwater] KILL la KILL - 24 (720p) [E411335C].mkv_snapshot_03.59_[2014.03.27_23.01.21]

There are no masterpiece shows in anime. There are shows that come close, kiss the moon, or are noteworthy contenders, but to call something a true masterpiece is really a matter of personal opinion. Even Miyazaki films, which most regard to be the creme fraiche of animated film, aren’t probably hailed by someone as the best. We accept certain things in our heads as being common-knowledge winners because we side with the majority stake. That majority stake, no doubt, has chosen Kill la Kill to be their flagship show this year. Unlike Chuunibiyou, which set the landspeed record for “Longest Something About Nothing” or Golden Time achieving its award for “Shittiest Ending in the Friend Zone of This Time”, KLK actually delivered what it promised by the end, even if it didn’t have any idea of what it was doing in the beginning.

I have no idea why I am still giving Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai Ren a fighting chance, really. The show is nothing short of the same rigamarole as the first season without any of the sort-of character development that occurred in the final episodes of the first season. Really, analyzing it beyond a depth of a hundred meters is probably pointless and left for people with way more time on their hands than me, but it is Saturday, and I have nowhere to go because I can’t leave my goddamn dogs home alone for less than an hour, so I figured this was a best as time as any to sort of offer a short (by my standards) thought about what would make this show better for everyone.

I’ve put seventy-five hours into Starbound since a little before this time last month. It’s a little disconcerning, especially since I wanted to finish Bioshock Infinite. BUT THERE IS STILL MORE THINGS TO DIG. Fuck, now I know why I don’t play Minecraft and I quit WoW many years ago.

So anime, right… suffice to say, only a handful of shows are keeping my attention this season. The rest I watch when I remember to, when I am bored, or to make fun of on Twitter (Chu2Koi, looking at you) or the blog. But, everything can’t be Symphogear for me and necessitate refreshing Nyaa every five minutes and downloading RAWs.

Anyway, this week I present a POWER RANKINGS special, fifteen micro-weeklies for everything on my docket this season, ordered from best to worst. It promises to be a mostly terrible affair.

More new series premieres, including the one everyone has been waiting for, Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai Ren, the magnificent tale of how KyoAni can do no wrong in anime. But if that does not strike your fancy, we also got Noragami, Onee-chan ga Kita, Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta, and Nobunagun. Truth be told? Not a particularly strong start to this season, but there are a few diamonds in the rough worth polishing, if they bother.
