I spent most of this week around Boston for a work function, and last weekend entertaining my niece, so I sort of forgot to compose the final first look post. Better late than never though, right? Highlighting here is Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou, Gakkou Gurashi!, Joukamachi no Dandelion, Danchigai, Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan, and Kangoku Gakuen

“Constricting Delights”
I started reading this manga I think a couple years ago when I was binging on Hayate and KamiNomi chapters, and it was actually pretty good. To finally see it animated is sort of a good and bad thing. The animation style seems to gel well, but I am a bit concerned on the pacing. I assume this is a one-cour show, so I am not holding out for much more beyond the introductions of the girls and some of the main guy’s heroics. Still, you don’t see this sort of thing pop up in anime/manga often, so even if it is your classic harem, it’s not your classic girl. Stop being such an oppressive shitlord, snakegirls have feelings too!

“L4D Japan Server”
I had to admit, this show got me good. I wasn’t sure why it was being billed a horror show, and all through the first episode I kept thinking to myself that this just appears to be another cutesy clubroom show. But those final minutes of the episode, oh man. It hits you like a ton of bricks psychologically. Moving forward, either this show will remain sort of where it stands, or it’s going to go in a much darker direction. Either way? Interested.

“Everyday Princess”
When I saw early screenshots, I was almost convinced another season of Baka Test snuck out on my, but then I realized it was actually a show about a royal family living in a normal home. To add another layer of interesting, they all have special powers. Honestly, I could have done without the powers and just gotten a sort of slice-of-life school-days show about royal kids living a normal life outside of castles and royalty. Would have still been good. But, for what it’s worth, it ain’t bad. Passable characters and animation. I’ll keep going.

“Masochism Paradise”
I made a lot of social justice jokes on Shimoneta, but let’s be frank here, Shimoneta is weak-sauce compared to this show’s treatment of the male gender, holy hell. But not to be outmaneuvered, they in fact welcome it all with open arms and their head to the boot. Impressive. I’m intrigued just to see where this will go.

“RAISE YOUR FIRE-DONGERS”
I have to say, along with Chaos Dragon, this is one of the weaker entries of the season, and probably first to go On-Notice for the coming weeks. It plays off too much like Seiken Tsukai no World Break except lacking any charm in the “problem girls” which just appear to be standard Larry, Curly, and Moe tropes. To top it off, the setting is just another MAGICAL SCHOOL surrounding by MAGICAL BIG BAD where the show begins with OUR LORD AND SAVIOR sacrificing himself for the girls. I’ll give it a couple more episodes, but I don’t think I will end up interested.

“A household nightmare”
It’s a three-minute short about a guy living with four sisters. God bless that man. I lived with one sister and one mother for a couple years and that was absolute hell. Mistakes were made. Would have rather lived with my father.

I’ll try to throw out a quarter-season impressions post next week. Now to catch back up on everything.
