The last weeks of a season are always the worst for me, because I get so excited for the new season and the ending shows always tend to cop out at the end. Compiled with work, PAX East 2012, and my engagement to a woman who somehow allows me to do this shit half the day, this blog fell behind. So let’s sweep the last season out so we can get to the new shit.

Or planets that have warp drive.
FedEx delivers. To space.

For a show that rode in on the coattails of both an old show and a new show, Ano Natsu de Matteru gave a strong performance throughout its entire run, being enjoyable on all fronts, especially in terms of characters. The overall story was a tad predictable, because you kinda knew how the cards were going to stack for Kaito and Ichika. But it was an enjoyable experience, and certainly a must for fans of the Onegai franchise, as it combines some of the best moments from Teacher and Twins. At worst, Lemon-style trolling will be the thing to watch.

Title: Ano Natsu de Matteru
Sub Group I Watched: Commie
Episodes: 12
Rating (1-10): 8

Favorite Character: Ichika
Least Favorite Character: Tetsurou
SHIPPING THREAD: Kaito and Ichika. Sorry Kanna.
Lemon and Ichigo: So many parallels between our master trolls, and I don’t remember enough of Teacher to compare this on, but it was amusing to see them put that little spin on it that reminded me much of the original.
Hoping for Mizuho? Was anyone else hoping for Mizuho to return there at the lake in the end? No one?

Not really.
I was thinking of Seal as I watched this. Then I stabbed my brain with a fork.

It may have been an obvious shoehorn for selling music, but Senki Zesshou Symphogear was pure fun to watch through and through, and I actually enjoyed the music playing during the transforms and battles enough to grab the character albums for my daily work commute. The story was pretty good up until the end, when they kinda went that pseudo-Darth Vader route and kinda tried to take it a little out-of-the-park. But it finished up well, and finished in a place that could insinuate more. So we’ll see what comes of that.

Title: Senki Zesshou Symphogear
Sub Group I Watched: Commie
Episodes: 12
Rating (1-10): 9

Favorite Character: Tachibana Hibiki
Least Favorite Character: Sakurai Ryoko
STRONGEST SYMPHOGEAR: Tsubasa
Engrish Motherfrucker, speak do you? Like I said in a previous post, if you are going to do English, get an actual English speaker and do it proper. Ika Musume did it, so can you.
Favorite Theme: Gekisou Gungnir

Or he'll rip girl's clothes off 3x faster
I bet it'll go 3X faster

I wasn’t pinning high hopes on this show, but when it started out really well and kept up after three or four episodes, I thought that I might’ve been wrong, that things have changed. I was wrong of course, and Highschool DxD, while having good action scenes and some good moments, did not survive the overall ordeal of being a quality show. Fanservice shows really shouldn’t try to play themselves up as being more than what they are, fanservice. But President-tits were worth it I guess. Enjoy the little things. Or big things. See what I did there?

Title: Highschool DxD
Sub Group I Watched: Sub DESU
Episodes: 12
Rating (1-10): 7

Favorite Character: Rias Gremory
Least Favorite Character: Raiser Phenex
Best Tits: Akeno Himejima
The Manga? I haven’t read it, but I guess things make more sense in it?
Moar? I hope not.

Forever Loli
TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR, THE CLUB PRESIDENT WANTS YOU LIKE YOU ARE

Much like shows before it, Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai tried to be awkward, but you just ended up having THAT FEEL for every moment Hina did anything that was stupidly cute. Overall the show itself didn’t go too far out of the box, but for what it was that was probably a good thing. Most of the little things were wrapped up quickly, but they didn’t really go out of their way to make things super hard for them. I guess that makes real life seem easy when it’s not, but since it’s a cartoon we’re talking about, the fuck cares. Also, Raika-tits.

Title: Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai
Sub Group I Watched: Horrible
Episodes: 12
Rating (1-10): 8

Favorite Character: Raika Oda
Least Favorite Character: Shuntarou Sako
Best Girl: Hina, obviously
Tsundere Sawako: Come on, no landlady, much less a child-less girl, can withstand a full-frontal Hina attack.
Moar? I certainly hope so.

SUPREME VICTORY
Perfect

Probably deserving of the underdog title of this season, Rinne no Lagrange really jumped out and made for an interesting story, action, and characters seen in quite awhile. There were some points where things got a little slow, especially towards the end with her being grounded, but the end was cryptic and amazing at the same time. I don’t know if more will be made, though prequel action might come if they animate the other material about the other gal there I can’t remember at the moment.

Wan. Wan.
Where is the second season of Stellvia, XEBEC? Fuckers.

I’m skipping Milky Holmes, because it was trash. Seriously, it was fun, then they lost their powers. Again. I can’t do a third season of this, it’s just Milky Holmes doing Milky Holmes things, and it wasn’t that interesting anymore. Sorry bros. Also, Mirai Nikki has one more episode left before I review that thriller. Finally, I still plan to finish and review Another, so stay tuned for that.

New shit will get first episode previewed this week. I’m almost back in the saddle, you keep your ass tuned in, ya hear?
